Your Family in Stuart England (403)

This 3-week course examines the life and times of our 17th century ancestors, starting with the death of Queen Elizabeth and the introduction of the Stuart dynasty. This is the time of science and discovery, exploration and conquest both at home and overseas - the Age of Revolution.

Over the three weeks of the course we shall meet up with new religious groups; follow map-makers across the country; skirt round the plague pits and the Great Fire of London; read about some of the new books and plays and observe family life across the social scale in Stuart England & Wales.

Which faction did your ancestors support in the English Civil War? You may never know for sure but with this course you will start to unravel some of the background social, political and economic strands that made up the fabric of Stuart society.

STUDENTS SAID "I thought the whole course excellent and the style of presentation - not at all stuffy - brought out the human side of Stuart life - the websites and extra reading very good choices."
