Simon Fowler

Simon Fowler MA (UCL), DAA (UCL), BA (UEA) is a leading authority on family history and a prolific writer on the subject.

He worked at The National Archives for over thirty years, and most recently edited their family history magazine, Ancestors.

Simon is now a professional researcher, writer and tutor. He has undertaken research on a wide range of subjects for clients, ranging from Victorian corkscrew makers, Nazi war criminals, British war heroes, and the history of the Open University.

Simon has written a wide range of books on genealogical and historical subjects. Recent publications include a history of workhouses, several guides for family historians about researching their First World War ancestors, and a forthcoming title on the Missing Men of the First World War. In addition, he regularly contributes to family history magazines.

He has spoken to many family history societies and conferences in Britain and overseas and is a regular tutor at the Society of Genealogists. Simon is a member of the Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives (AGRA).

All this knowledge finds their way into the courses he teaches for Pharos and in particular the interaction with students in the chatrooms.
