Cathy is a qualified genealogist with over 30 years experience in historical research. Her interest in house history was sparked when as part of her degree in Medieval & Modern History, one of the modules studied involved researching the history of a local village and visiting the archives to find out more about its buildings and inhabitants. She has been a professional genealogist and house historian for twenty years and holds the Higher Certificate in Genealogy from the Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies and a PGCert in Architectural History from the University of Oxford. She specialises in researching the history of properties for both private homeowners and commercial clients and she particularly enjoys finding out more about the lives of the previous owners and occupants. Houses researched have been as diverse as medieval granges, Georgian town houses, pubs, converted chapels, Victorian terraced cottages and interwar semis. She regularly gives talks and writes articles on the subject.
Cathy is also a Member and the current Secretary of AGRA, the Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives, which maintains and promotes high standards of professional conduct in the field of genealogy and historical research.
