Jane Hough

Jane Hough BSc (Hons) has been a public servant for over thirty years, researching economic policy, undertaking audit work, and most recently developing and delivering training for senior managers. She is the 4th generation in her family to take on a teaching role. 

Jane has been researching her family history since she was a teenager. She first became interested in her military ancestors in 2014, when there were several family history projects connected to the centenary of the start of the First World War. Since then, she has researched over fifty people who served in the military, from the 19th century to the Second World War.

Jane is a graduate of the Pharos Intermediate Certificate (with distinction) and is currently studying for the Advanced Certificate. She is a Trustee of Gloucestershire Family History Society, a blogger, podcast guest and speaker, and  undertakes research for friends and family. 

Her own family history research has taken her from coal-mining in the Forest of Dean, farming in Cheshire to discovering a coffin-maker in Yorkshire. 

Jane will be taking on teaching the Your Military Ancestors course from Simon Fowler, when he retires at the end of 2026.
