Linda Newey BA DipGen worked for Birmingham City Council as a librarian, and as a tutor for Birmingham Adult Education Services, in a long established career of 40 years.

What began as a personal journey of discovery about her own family history, turned into a passion. As Linda's own family history developed, so did her knowledge, as she completed the Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies (IHGS) correspondence course, gained the IHGS Higher Certificate in Genealogy followed by the Diploma in Genealogy.

Since qualifying, Linda has run her own genealogy business, Four Oaks Genealogy, based in the West Midlands and ideally situated to access the historic counties of Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire. Her experience includes conducting research for clients from around the globe, presenting talks, teaching and sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm for all things genealogical.

Derived from her own personal experience, Linda is an enthusiastic advocate of life-long learning and believes in the numerous merits and benefits of distance learning. This enthusiasm and belief, combined with her love of genealogy, is put into practice with the Pharos courses she runs, supporting students to not only make their own family history discoveries, but to realise their own genealogical potential.

In other roles, Linda is Editor of 'The Midland Ancestor', the journal of Midland Ancestors, the principal family history society for the counties of Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire. Linda is also a Member of the Association of Genealogists & Researchers in Archives (AGRA), and acting secretary for the AGRA Members Midlands Network.
